The Vice Chancellor of Bells University of Technology, Prof Jeremiah Ojediran, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to solving Nigeria’s developmental challenges by training young people to engage in research and innovation that address real-life problems.
Ojediran emphasized that the institution’s graduates are not job seekers but job creators, equipped with relevant skills to build their own businesses.
The Vice Chancellor stated this while speaking with journalists during the 17th Convocation Press Conference held at the institution’s campus in Ota, Ogun State.
According to him, the university is focused on identifying gaps in the nation’s development and using research from its lecturers and students to proffer practical solutions.

Citing example, the VC noted that some students were trained in interlocking production and construction.
According to him, before graduation, they were responsible for the interlocking of the university’s premises, and many have since established their own businesses using the skills acquired.
He also disclosed that the university is exploring the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to address critical issues such as food security and other national concerns.
Highlighting the institution’s growth, Prof. Ojediran announced that 1,016 students will graduate during the upcoming 20th anniversary and 17th convocation ceremony.
He added that the number of applicants to the institution has increased from 2,000 to 4,000, reflecting its growing reputation.
He also revealed that some members of the Board of Trustees and two professors who were part of the university’s foundation 20 years ago will be honoured during the anniversary.
Ojediran expressed appreciation to the university’s founder, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, for his vision and unwavering support.
He also commended the institution’s staff for their commitment and contributions to its growth over the years.
Activities lined up for the anniversary include a medical outreach, a convocation lecture, and a visit to neighbouring communities that have supported the university’s development.
