Investigation conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu revealed that Garin Goge, Fune, Garbuwa, Katarko and Garin Bukar villages were affected.
The communities depended on water from ponds for various purposes.
Malam Isa Lawan, a resident of Garin Goge village in Fika Local Government, told NAN that “Chemicals applied on farmlands and other waste products are swept into the ponds used by the communities when rain falls.’’
Also, Malam Bukar Kolo a resident of Fune village said: “Following the breakdown of our boreholes, we depend on the ponds as our source of drinking water and for other purposes.
“When it rains, chemicals sprayed on the farms  and other waste products flood into the ponds, constituting health hazards to the lives of the people and livestock.’’
Malam Mohammed Bukar, General Manager of the state Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, however, said the agency had received complaints from the affected communities. (NAN)
