Weekly Trust: Tell us briefly about yourself?
Nori Mathias: My name is Nori Mathias, I am of the Bachama tribe from Adamawa state. I am the third child of a family of five. I am an entertainer and businessman. (Laughing). I work as a media consultant with Quest Media LTD and I run Quest Media Studios. I am also a proud father of a girl child.
You have been off the entertainment radar for many years now. What have you been up to?
I have been working as a media consultant and filming documentaries. Entertainment was a passion and I believe I made my mark while I was there. I am not off the radar I am still very much around the entertainment scene.
Many people had assumed that you could not put up with the pressure of entertainment and that was why you opted out. Is this true?
No, it’s not true. My not being on the music radar has nothing to do with the pressure in the entertainment industry. Music for me is a hobby not something I would make a living out off. I am not saying if I had gone that way I wouldn’t be grateful, but as time passed by perspective changes and so did mine. I found something that was fun to do and was paying off. I love making music no doubt but not as something I saw as a means to an end.
What were your dreams as a child?
My dreams as a child has always been to live a life where I was free and happy doing whatever I was doing. Also my aspirations while growing up were to be successful in life and be able to make a positive impact in the lives of many. There is more to life than we can imagine.
What do you think of today’s trend in the entertainment industry?
I see a lot of talented people doing good music and making their fans happy. I am so impressed by how the music industry has grown and what it has become in the country today. With the right encouragement and support we can excel in the world of entertainment and can even compete favorably with internationally recognized artistes worldwide.
Do we see you coming back into the entertainment industry?
My passion has always been music; in that sense I never left it. I own a recording studio and we are constantly producing music. So, I am still in the entertainment industry. It is just that I am not a performing artist, but if the need arises, you never can tell, I might just pop in. (Laughing)
At a time it was rumored that you ventured into the movie industry? Do we see you taking that as a fully fledged job?
You can never stop people from talking especially in a situation where you are no longer a performing artiste. To cut the long story short, I never ventured into the movie industry. If I get you well you are trying to ask if I will act a movie. To that I don’t think so, but in that light I am thinking of producing movies though, but like I always say you never can tell.
You just celebrated your birthday. What is the one thing you wished for on that special day?
My birthday was fun and I wished I was sitting next to my dad, putting clips on a time line, working on a documentary, or that I was married and chilling with my wife. Either way, I had fun with my friends and birthday mate Omalichanwa Chioma at Vanity, House of Cubana. Birthdays are special occasions in someone’s life and it is always an opportunity to give glory to God. I glorify God for giving me the opportunity to see yet another year. I also want to use this opportunity to thank my friends who showed their love immensely on my birthday, Romeo, Doctor Shatt, Tukur, Chinedu, Fola and Onus.
If you had not ventured into the entertainment industry, what would you have been?
Seriously I don’t know. I have never really thought about it, because entertainment has always been part of my life. So, I don’t look outside the entertainment realm.
Most entertainers are seen as snobs. Does that apply to you?
I have heard that a lot that I am, but funny enough the truth is that I am not. I just like minding my business and doing my own things without being disturbed just like I don’t disturb others or interfere in their businesses. That does not mean that I am snobbish. I am actually a very jovial person when you get to know me on a personal level.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
Five years is still far away. I think I would rather focus on the present and allow the future take care itself. When we get there we would surely cross the bridge. For now being a father has changed my life and made me the man I am today. I might not be the best Dad in the world but I try to give my daughter the best in life. Hearing her call me ‘Daddy’ really gets me thinking a lot. I would d say that experience changed my life and got me making the decision I made that has brought me here and now.
What experiences in life have had the most impact on the kind of person you are today?
Being a father I would say is the experience that has had the most impact on me and made me who I am today.
Any last words for your fans?
I really want to appreciate them and let them know that I love them. At the same time I would want to apologize to them by saying I am so sorry as regards my absence from being a performing artist. I pray my songs remain ever green in your hearts.
