The Special Marshals Coordinator for Kwara, Ekiti and Kogi states, Deacon Mike Tunde Atoyebi, has said over 20 special marshals have been killed by reckless drivers in the country.

Ayoyebi spoke with City & Crime on the sidelines of the 2022 Special Marshals Conference held in Ilorin and attended by over 300 participants.

He said, “The Special Marshals have faced various security challenges in the course of their official duties like patrolling and travelling and we have lost over 20 special and regular marshals in this regard.

“At least five in Kogi and three in Ekiti states, among others. The worrying aspect is that most of the cases were because of recklessness and wickedness of drivers.”

In his keynote address, the FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer for Kwara, Ekiti and Kogi states, Hyginus Omeje, thanked the Kwara coordinator of the special marshals, Price Adetayo Adefolaju, for the effort to improve their services.

He noted that with 16,546 special marshals, the FRSC remained the leading paramilitary agency with the largest and best example of volunteerism in the country.
