The chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Adamu Candido, has said more than 250 youths have been engaged and paid monthly stipends from his council’s security votes.

Candido said the council has been able to give succour to the youths that are engaged under the AMAC Marshal Guards and AMAC Environmental Cadets.

The chairman, who spoke during the inauguration of the ward executives of the All Progressives Congress by the party’s state chairman, Alhaji Usman Abdulmalik, also said he had been collecting 50 per cent from his salary while the other half was used for the welfare of the less privileged people in the council.

“We established the AMAC Marshal and Environment Cadets to ensure that unemployed youths are given little succour to make ends meet. We may not be able to give them proper employment right away but we have to engage them and they are being paid from the chairman’s security vote. I have never taken a kobo from the security vote. For those that do not know, security vote is unaccounted for and unaudited. I could have pocketed it and nothing would have happened but I gave it out and provided jobs for the people,” he said.
