The Gombe State Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Competition 2025 is set to attract over 3,500 athletes and footballers from 73 schools across 11 Local Government Areas.

These participants have officially registered for the championship, making it one of the largest youth sports events in the state.

The competition will be held at the prestigious Pantami Township Stadium in Gombe Metropolis from January 19th to 25th, 2025. It will feature both public and private schools, including GDSS Dukku West, GSS Bolari East, Emerald International Academy, and Diocesan High School. The event aims to promote sportsmanship, discover young athletic talents, and encourage youth development.

Athletes will compete in a wide range of events, including sprints (100m, 200m, 400m), middle and long-distance races (800m, 1500m, 3000m), relays (4x100m, 4x400m), and field events such as shot put, long jump, high jump, triple jump, and javelin throw. Football matches for boys will also take place, culminating in the Principal’s Cup finals.

Notably, scouts from Germany, led by former Flying Eagles captain and UEFA Licenced Coach Andrew Uwe, alongside Coach Henry Ambrose from AGIC-Diaspora Football Outreach, will be scouting for talent during the football competition.

The opening ceremony on January 19th will feature a match pass, while the closing ceremony on January 25th will include medal and award presentations to the top athletes and schools.

Organized by the Gombe State Athletics Association under Hon. Ahmad Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, and sponsored by the Green White Green Sports Center, the competition promises a holistic experience with accommodations, security, healthcare, food, and entertainment at the Games Village.
