‘Over 400,000 vulnerable people benefited from free medical services in Bauchi’

Bauchi State Government has offered free medical services to over 400,000 vulnerable people to improved basic healthcare delivery across the state.

Deputy Director PHC Darazo LGA Ibrahim Muhammad Hassan, who disclosed this while speaking with journalists during a media tour of ongoing and completed projects of governor Bala Mohammed administration, said that the state government in collaboration with development partners have initiated various projects and programmes that are uplifting healthcare services for needy in Darazo and other LGAs in the state.

 

Hassan explained the free medical services for the vulnerable people across every PHC in Darazo, “We have a register of 250 vulnerable people receiving free medical services in each of the PHCs. When such patient visited the PHC there are personnel assign to direct them to the laboratory for diagnosis and after the results, a medical personnel consult and give them the required drugs without paying anything.”

 

Hassan added that part of the intervention also includes training and retraining of health workers to build their capacity to meet up with the current changes in the curriculum to discharge effective services across the 65 PHCs in Darazo LGA.

 

“As I earlier told you every PHC have a register of 250 vulnerable people while Under-5 PHC have 350 vulnerable people and Sade PHC also have a register of 350 vulnerable due their proximity to the township.

 

Hassan further disclosed an incentives program been introduced to pregnant women and delivery kits to boost routine immunization in Darazo, saying ,”We have evolved strategies to scale-up routine immunization within PHCs and outreach services in Darazo LGA. We recently received an intervention by a nongovernmental organization N I, which is providing a token of between N1000 and N2000 to mothers for transportation to the facility and return back home.

 

Hassan said that for mother’s living in hard-to-reach areas a dedicated team of health personnel were assigned to carryout outreach services at their designated village head palace where the immunization is administered and the token is given to the mothers, adding , “Every child that has completed his immunization with evidence of proof is entitled to a gift of N5000 and the money handed over to his mother.”

 

In his remarks, State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Usman Shehu Usman, who led a team of journalists on media tour explained that the free medical services is aimed at improving family health, reduce infant morbidity and maternal mortality rates, adding that it will continue to offer free antenatal care, drugs to pregnant women and children U-5 years across the state.

 

The Commissioner assured that government has made drugs, delivery kits and other commodities available for the success of the free medical services in order to ensure that patients have unhindered access to services.

 

He called on the people to feel free to attend any health facilities across the state in order to access healthcare services that are readily available
