The Kano Indigenous Languages of Africa Film Market and Festival (KILAF) 2025 festival has attracted a record of 616 film submissions from 77 countries.

The eighth edition of the event will be held from November 6 to 8, 2025, with the theme “Crossing Storytelling Boundaries: Strategies for Multilingual Success in African Filmmaking.”

This was made known at a press conference held on Sunday by the Chief Executive Officer of KILAF, Abdulkareem Mohammed.

Mohammed disclosed that the submissions were across five major categories – short, student, feature, documentary, and animation films.

Out of these, 85 films from 30 countries have made it to the official selection list, he said.

“The top listed films by nation are Egypt with 17, Nigeria with 14, Morocco with eight, and Tunisia with four.

“Based on the registration data, we are expecting participants from about 12 countries,” he stated.

“There will be 18 winners out of 87 nominations, but due to the rigorous nature of the selection process, every nominee is already considered a winner. We congratulate all the official nominees because they truly deserve it,” Mohammed said.
