Over 70,000 farmers to benefit from 2014 dry season rice farming in Kano

Speaking during the flag off of the program, acting State Director ATA Adamu Muhammad Shehu stated that during the national flag off in Abuja, the Minister for Agriculture, Dr Akinwumi Adesina had revealed that the sum of N14 billion has been approved for the support of this year’s program with the sole aim of boosting dry season farming in the country.
He added that under the rice program this season, a total of 69, 838 farmers are expected to benefit, with each farmer receiving 3 bags of fertilizer and 2 liters agrolyser at 50 percent subsidy by the federal government, while 25 kilograms rice seeds would be given to the farmers free and each farmer will pay N9,700 for these inputs.
According to him this year’s program the inputs redemption under the Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (GES), which enable farmers to access inputs through their mobile phones will in addition includes groundnut as well as maize farmers; where 225 groundnut farmers will receive 2 bags of fertilizer, 3 liters herbicides and 1.5 liters of pesticides each at 50 percent subsidy while 40 kilograms of groundnut seeds will also be given to them free while under the maize program, a total of 485 farmers are expected to benefit with each farmer receiving 3 bags of fertilizer at 50 percent subsidy while maize seeds are to be given free.
