Over 8,000 persons undergo free eye treatment in Jigawa

At least 8,730 persons in Jigawa State have benefitted from free eye medical services provided by the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY).

The outreach was supported by the Jigawa state government.

WAMY, in conjunction with Mallam Inuwa Foundation, also provided medicated glasses to patients in the four-day medical outreach which ended on Wednesday.

Foundation’s board of trustee chairman, Ahmed Inuwa, said the exercise would go a long way in reducing the burden and prevalence blindness and eye diseases in communities.

Some of the beneficiaries included men, women and children from various local government areas of the state.

“Free cataract surgeries were conducted on 637 patients; 500 patients got medical glasses. Drugs and treatments were provided to 7,593 patients”, Inuwa disclosed.

Management committee chairman, Yusuf Hussaini Baban, expressed gratitude to the Qatari government for sponsoring the medical outreach.

“We are grateful for the good gestures of leadership and people of Qatar who provide funds and facilities that help mankind and promote peaceful coexistence across the world,” he said.

“We will continue to partner with such humanitarian organisations in seeking the mercy of Almighty Allah by assisting persons with eye problems and other health challenges.”

The treasurer, Mohammed Bashir Dauda, said the charity work was to assist vulnerable communities and persons who lack the wherewithal to undergo eye surgeries.
