The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has destroyed substandard products worth over N10 million confiscated from markets in Kano State.

The goods were destroyed on Wednesday in Kalibawa village in Danbatta LGA by a delegation of SON officials, sister agencies and security operatives.

Speaking shortly after setting the goods ablaze, the Director General (DG) of SON, Mallam Farouk Salim, said the goods, which included sugar, flour, engine oil and brake fluids, were confiscated during a compliance operation across the state.

Represented by the SON Director in Kano, Jibrin Muhammad, the DG said they followed due process and based on the act of the organisation to destroy the products, adding that they would continue to ensure compliance in order to wipe out substandard products from the state.

He said, “As part of our effort to ensure that substandard products are wiped out from our markets, we go round the markets and industries to ensure that such kinds of products are impounded and destroyed. These are parts of them and they are valued at N10, 727, 800.00.”

He urged the general public to support their efforts by reporting any substandard products they come across either in the market or any public or hidden place.
