Over 1.4 million children in Adamawa State are set to receive polio immunization as the state launches a four-day campaign.
A total of 1,405,881 children aged 0-59 months will benefit from the exercise, which is scheduled to take place from April 26 to 29, 2025.
The Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA) has secured 1,443,300 doses of polio vaccine for the campaign, which will be carried out across all 226 political wards in the state.
According to Dr. Sulaiman Said Bashir, Executive Chairman of ASPHCDA, the campaign aims to sustain Nigeria’s polio-free status, achieved in 2020.
The campaign is supported by UNICEF, which has praised Adamawa State for its consistent efforts in healthcare delivery.
Dr. Bashir emphasized the importance of continued routine immunization efforts due to factors like migration, security issues, and environmental risks that heighten the risk of polio resurgence.
He assured the public that the vaccine is safe and effective, with only mild and rare side effects reported.
Parents, traditional rulers, and religious leaders are urged to support the exercise and ensure all eligible children are vaccinated.
The media is also encouraged to play a proactive role in spreading accurate information about the polio vaccine to encourage more parents to bring their children forward for immunization.
