Many shops in Owerri, the Imo State capital, and its environs were under lock and key as residents appeared not to be aware of the postponement of the general elections.

Our correspondent who drove round the metropolis observed that as late as 9am,  the streets of Owerri were empty with few vehicles plying the road apparently in obedience to the restriction order on the election.

The situation was the same along Okigwe – Owerri ,  Orlu – Owerri  and Owerri -Onitsha roads as few vehicles were seen plying the roads.

Residents expressed bitterness at the postponement.

A few of the traders who came out only stayed in front of their shops.

A resident, Andrew Iheme, said that the collateral damage caused by the postponement was enormous.

He said, “It is very sad and unfortunate that the election had to be postponed at the dying minute when everybody is getting ready to go. ”

Iheme beckoned on the electoral body not to disappoint Nigerians in these elections.
