Former governor of Osun state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has charged youths in the South-Western part of the country to cultivate Yoruba culture so as to reduce the dominant influence of foreign culture.
He spoke in  Osogbo, capital of Osun State during the presentation of Orisa (deity) Dances of Yoruba land which was exhibited at Osogbo City Hall by CBCIU, as part of initiatives to promote the Yoruba cultural heritage and preserve it for future generations.
Oyinlola decried the manner European culture assimilates  the African culture and reasoned  that the former  is not superior to the latter.
Oyinlola,who is also the Chairman of Board of the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding (CBCIU), said Yoruba culture could be harnessed to attract tourists and boost the economy.
“Kenya, Egypt depend largely on tourism, but we have been complacent in Nigeria here because of crude oil which can no longer sustain us.
We must take good advantage of God-given gifts in terms of cultural heritage to improve on our economy now,” he said.
He spoke on  the controversy over the chairmanship of the board of CBCIU between him and Professor Wole Soyinka, Oyinlola  saying, “The matter is in court. It is subudice and I will not want to talk about it. One thing remains incontrovertible. The CBCIU under me is the one known to the United Nation Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, (UNESCO).”
