The Oyo State government has altered the 2016/16 academic calendar for public schools in the state to enable schools complete the third term academic session, due to the seven weeks strike embarked upon by labour unions.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Niyi Olowofela, made this known at a news briefing in Ibadan. Olowofela said the industrial action which started early last month following protest by students had paralysed teaching and learning in the schools.
He said the seven weeks for which schools were shut would be regained as academic activities would be on till Friday 9th September.
Professor Olowofela, who said that the vacation period for public schools would be for just a week, noted that the 17  schools identified to have allegedly participated in last month’s protest have been directed to re-open, though government was still expecting letters of apology from teachers and students of the affected schools.
