A release signed by the state Commissioner for Education, Professor Taoheed Adedoja said that the scholarship exercise had been moribound since 1983 but was resuscitated by the current administration in the state.

According to the release, the objective of the exercise was to recognise brilliant but indigent students in various academic disciplines in institutions of higher learning in Nigeria with not less than 3.50 Cumulative Grade Point Average [CGPA] over five Points for undergraduates and Second Class Upper Division for Post-Graduate scholarship.

The Commissioner recalled that the selection interview covering various academic and professional disciplines that would impact on the social, educational and economic development of the state was conducted last September. Beneficiaries were selected from various disciplines including Medicine, Pharmacy, Law, Arts, Social Sciences, Education, Pure and Applied Sciences, Engineering, Agriculture and its related courses.

Professor Adedoja vouched for accountability and transparency of the selection exercise disclosing that the selection team composed by the government was made up of seasoned educationists with wealth of experience under the leadership of a retired Professor of Electrical Engineering, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology [LAUTECH], Professor Teslim Raji.

He said verification exercise to ensure that the selected candidates are not impersonated would be held before the end of January, adding that the scholarship, when awarded, would be renewable on yearly basis subject to the candidate maintaining the required CGPA.
