Oyo: Guber Polls Situation Report

The visible presence of security operatives in most past of Ibadan, Oyo State capital contributed immensely to the peaceful conduct of the polls in most of the poling units across the state.

As early as 7 o’clock in the morning, prospective voters were seen converging at the polling centres for accreditation which commenced in earnest in most units visited by our correspondent.

At Ward 3, Unit 22 in the Oke Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area, the turnout of voters was more impressive than what obtained during the March 28 Presidential election.

Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, Deputy Governorship candidate of Labour Party in the state hailed the performance of INEC in the accreditation noting that the Card Readers performed better this time around.

Man nabbed with Fake PVC

A middle-aged man was arrested by security operatives with fake Permanent Voters Register (PVC) at Oju Irin Ward 4, Bodija, in the Ibadan North Local Government area. 

The suspect was instantly taken to the nearby police station for further interrogation.

Joint Military, Police Surveillance at Iwo Road, Mapo, Beere other flash points of Ibadan

The military and police personnel effected water-tight security at some flash points of Ibadan notably Iwo Road, Mapo, Beere, Molete and other areas.

They carried out bodily and vehicular search on people apparently with a view to averting unnecessary crisis.

A notable politician at the Mapo axis of Ibadan and Oyo State Coordinator of SURE-P, Mr. Dare Adeleke acknowledged the improved security arrangement as well as the “better accreditation processes” submitting that with the better awareness shown by the electorate, the future is brighter for democracy in Nigeria.

Seyi Makinde predicts a re-run Guber Election

The Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde scored the INEC’s accreditation processes better than what obtained at the Presidential poll, but submitted that the Governorship election in the state may result in a re-run.

Makinde told newsmen that he did not see whoever is winning Saturday’s Guber poll meeting the constitutional requirement of 25 per cent in 23 Local Governments of the state.

“In case of re-run, I see SDP emerging the winner,” Seyi MaKINDE SAID.

People are now more vigilant –  Ladoja

Governorship candidate of Accord Party, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, who performed his franchise at Ward 10, Unit 13, Ondo Street, Bodija, Ibadan polling centre commended the electorate for being security conscious.

He said:  “I can say that people are now more vigilant.  They are now more vigilant because last time, they found out that in many places, voters were more than the accredited voters.  How did it happen?  Now that they see that votes were tampered with, they are more vigilant.”

Ladoja opined that he would win the Oyo Governorship poll.
