According to sources at the state legislature, they were suspended to allow the House of Assembly investigates the allegations levied against them by their petitioners.

The Assembly had earlier been inundated with various petitions sent to the House by the people from the various constituencies alleging non-performance against the affected council chairmen.

As regards the affected Olorunsogo council chairman, it was gathered that 10 councillors from the Local Government Area had reportedly passed vote of no confidence on the council chairman and asked him to proceed on indefinite suspension pending the determination of investigation of allegations levied against him. They also asked the council vice chairman to immediately take over from the chairman. The Local Government’s proceeding sent to the House was simply rectified by the House of Assembly.

The suspension of the Atisbo council chairman was said to have caused a stir in the House which led to the Speaker; Hon Moruf Atilola quickly calling for votes. At the end of the voting, 22 lawmakers voted in favour, while five were against. The council chairman was accused of incompetence, mismanagement of funds and maladministration.

The suspension of the Oyo West council chairman was based on a petition by the concerned youths who accused him of alleged non-performance, misappropriation of funds and maladministration.
