The Oyo State Governmentn has said 250,000 hectares will be given to the private sector for agricultural purposes.

The state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Oyewale Oyewunmi, said the state planned to collaborate with the private sector to expand and improve on its poultry, cassava, cashew, maize and sorghum production by providing land for farming and other agricultural purposes.

With the large arable land at its disposal, the government said investors in the private sector could procure the land to either expand the existing crops and poultry production or delve into other agricultural endeavours, with a promise to make the roads leading to the lands motorable.

Speaking with journalists in Lagos, Oyewunmi hinted of the government’s plan to organise the first agricultural investment summit and exhibition between October 10 and 11, 2018, at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan.

The commissioner, who was represented by Mr. John Delano, said the event, which is expected to attract investors to the state, would be attended by smallholder farmers, federal government agencies, agric cooperatives, investment companies, financial institutions and other agricultural stakeholders.
