The festival tagged: ‘Eko 2012’ would hold in November in Lagos.
This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the zonal meeting of the general managers and the state directors of sports held in Ibadan on July 19.
The communiqué signed by Steve Olarinoye, the Zonal Coordinator, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ibadan said that the elimination would hold next month.
According to the communiqué, the elimination will hold at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium and Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, both in Ibadan.
He said that there were six team events in the festival namely: hockey, football, basketball, handball, volleyball and abula.
Olarinoye said that the three states in the zone, host Oyo, Ogun and Lagos would feature in the zonal elimination out of which a state would qualify from the zone for each team event.
The communiqué added that the zone unanimously agreed to allow hosts Lagos State to participate at the zonal elimination on non-scoring basis.
The meeting, according to communiqué, commended NSC for following strictly, for the first time, the timeline drawn for the organisation of the festival.
“The meeting is of the opinion that the NSC and the various federations should revisit National Open Championships in different sports to cater for the discovered athletes from the festival,” the communiqué said.
The meeting, the communiqué added, commended the effort of Lagos State Government toward having the best ever National Sports Festival.
It added that Lagos State Acting Director of Sports, Mrs Grace Asagba had earlier briefed the meeting on the Lagos State Government preparations for the festival. (NAN
