An Oyo State secondary school has emerged the overall winner of 4th Annual Raw Materials Quiz Competition for Secondary Schools in Nigeria with the cash prize of N1millon.
Deril Academy, Ibadan, which represented the State and South West at the final stage of the competition, was trailed by Federal Government Girls College, Calabar, which came second while Government College (Special School), Toro, Bauchi State, took third position.
The second and third positions were awarded cash prize of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) and three hundred thousand naira (N300,000) respectively.
Speaking at the programme, the Director-General of Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Professor Hussaini Doko Ibrahim appealed to all participants to put in practice what they had acquired from the competition.
The DG, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the agency, Mr Chuks Ngaha, stressed on the need to enlighten young people on the development and utilisation of Nigeria’s local raw materials to foster innovations.
According to him, the current economic situation in Nigeria has made it imperative for the country to look inwards and diversify the economy.
