The Paints Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (PMA) have pledged to confront the problem of adultration and faking of premium brands which have negatively affected their volume and profitability.

The Chairman of PMA, Mr. Abimbolu Babatunde, disclosed this during a recent press conference to announce the sixth biannual raw materials, equipment and paint exhibition scheduled for October 28 and 29, 2019.

Mr. Babatunde said, “Adulteration reduces quality of the premium. Some painters now make paints in the site; the equipment used in mixing paints cannot be replaced with manpower.”

He said the theme of the exhibition: “Future Trend in Coating Technology”, was chosen based on the need to prepare paint manufacturers in Nigeria ahead of future developments in manufacturing and sales.

The show will also dwell on the lead content in paints, improving quality of products and the recently signed African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

PMA’s Secretary, Jude Maduka, said, “We are making arrangement to hold a forum to educate chemical sellers in the market on how to handle these chemicals, and to also know the people to sell to and the ones they shouldn’t sell to.”

Maduka said exhibitors from different parts of the world would be invited for the show and that attendance would be opened to all manufacturers of paint, ink, allied products, architects, builders, real estate developers and chemical vendors, adding that intending investors were also expected to grace the occasion.
