Pakistan’s military has sentenced an Indian naval officer to death on charges of espionage and sabotage.

In a statement, the army said Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was arrested in March 2016, was an Indian intelligence official who aided and financed terrorist activities in the southwestern Balochistan province and the southern port city of Karachi. He had been convicted by a military tribunal. “Today, [army chief] Gen Qamer Javed Bajwa has confirmed his death sentence,” a military statement said on Monday, without stating when the execution would take place.
