Pakistan has called for an independent inquiry into the extra-judicial killings, and a United Nations fact finding mission to investigate brutalities perpetrated by the Indian occupying forces in Kashmir.
The Pakistani High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Waqar Ahmad Kingravi made the call at an event to commemorate Kashmir Solidarity Day in Abuja.
He said the call became necessary because attempts by the Kashmiris to get justice and freedom to express their right of self-determination have been brutally suppressed by the Indian Armed forces with increasing ferocity.
Since 1989, Kingravi said Indian troops have martyred over 95,000 Kashmiris and injured thousands of others, while over 11,000 Kashmiri women have been subjected to rape.
He said 71 years after the promise of plebiscite, and despite various UN Security Council resolutions, the right of self-determination through free and fair plebiscite has been denied to the Kashmiri people.
He therefore appealed to Nigeria and the international community to intensify their support in maintaining peace and order in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The Kashmir dispute is the core issue between India and Pakistan and its resolution would ensure durable peace in the region,” he said.
