The Ondo State Police Command says it has begun a probe into the attack on the Commissioner for Women Affairs in the state, Adebunmo Osadahun.
Daily Trust recalls that Mrs Osadahun was attacked in the Arigidi Akoko area of the state during the distribution of palliative to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, who confirmed that an investigation had commenced, said the Commissioner of Police, Asabi Abiodun, condemned the brutal attack on Mrs Osadahun.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the commissioner who was in the Akoko area to see to the distribution of state palliatives was attacked by the assailant named Awolumate Olumide while having a meeting with some of their party members in the area.

“The CP has ordered that a thorough investigation be carried out and the case transferred to the SCID, Akure for further probe into what led to the Assault,” the PPRO said.
Meanwhile, the state government has condemned the attack on the commissioner, saying an assault on a government official on duty is not only criminal but an affront to the government.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, in a statement issued on Monday, said the state government would join in investigating the assault case while assuring that it would support the full weight of the law to take its cause.
“We remind the public, that the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law prohibits all forms of violence against persons and provides maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishments to offenders.
“There are better ways to seek remediation or express concerns where necessary. In the distribution of palliatives, we will continue to do our best to reach the most vulnerable in our communities and we ask for your understanding and support. We urge Ondo State residents to be law-abiding at all times,” the statement read.
