Alimi Adewale will on Friday hold a month-long solo contemporary art exhibition inspired by the pandemic and the recent protest against police brutality in Nigeria and other countries.

A statement by Retro Africa said the exhibition which is themed “Changing faces: new frontiers in figurative art,” will show Adewale’s mastery of materiality curated by Dolly Kola-Balogun and Ugonna Ibe-Ejiogu.

“Adewale proposes the long-held tenets of European, modern, and indigenous art into new visions of African figuration. Drawing upon his courage series, in this new body of work, he proposes alternative ways of channeling all peoples into one mind; towards new signifiers of understanding,” the statement read.

Adewale is a self-taught painter, sculptor, and artist that holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Ilorin. Among his works to be on display are site-specific scale impasto paintings, minimalist and abstract sculptures coated in acrylics with rich racial varieties.

The exhibition is billed to be held at the Retro Africa Gallery, Asokoro, Abuja.
