There was panic along the ever- busy Ketu-Alapere inward toll gate in Lagos yesterday when a tanker, loaded with 33,000 litres of fuel, developed fault and in the process spilled its content.

The incident occurred at about 8.30 a.m, worsening the traffic situation on the expressway. The tanker suddenly developed a fault while on motion.

Eko Trust learnt that emergency responders especially the Lagos State Fire Service were hurriedly mobilized to the scene to avoid explosion in the process.

Other responders in the scene were the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA); the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Police, among others.

Following the incident, traffic movement was nearly at a standstill, with vehicles inward and outward Toll Gate-Ogudu-Alapere, stuck in the gridlock occasioned by the tanker incident.

However, as emergency responders cleared the road after the firemen blanked the spilled content, sanity was restored to the area.

LASEMA however, confirmed that emergency responders with traffic officials were able to move the truck to a layby with fire service behind, blanketing the content, in order to ease the traffic gridlock

Another tanker was later brought to the scene to transfer the content as at the time of filing this report.
