Panic gripped commuters and motorists along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway on Thursday morning after a coach detached from a moving train in the Ladipo area.
The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. as the train from Ogba Ayo in Ogun State was headed for Apapa in Lagos.
Witnesses said the last coach of the train unexpectedly broke off while the train was in motion, halting abruptly and startling road users and nearby residents.
“Everyone was shocked by what happened, but thankfully, no lives were lost,” said Oloruntoba Omodele, who was near the scene.
The sudden separation caused a temporary traffic gridlock along the busy corridor, which is often plagued by congestion during peak hours. Emergency responders, including security personnel and traffic management officials, arrived promptly to secure the area and restore order.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is yet to issue an official statement as of press time, and the exact cause of the mechanical failure remains unknown.
It was learnt that the affected coach was later reconnected, and the train was moved off the expressway to ease traffic flow. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
