The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has sent another batch of 12 postgraduate scholarship beneficiaries to universities in the United Kingdom as part of the Federal Government’s commitment to building human capacity among youths in the Niger Delta.
Speaking at a pre-departure briefing, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro, urged the beneficiaries to excel academically and remain worthy ambassadors of Nigeria and the Niger Delta.
In a statement on Thursday, the Special Assistant on Media to the Administrator, Mr Igoniko Oduma, said the orientation programme featured sessions on “Social and Cultural Relations in the UK,” “Academic Expectations,” and “Administration of the Scholarship.” Each beneficiary was also presented with a laptop to support research and thesis work.
Dr Otuaro cautioned the scholars against disappointing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government and the people of the Niger Delta, stressing that they represent a legacy of PAP’s academic sponsorships whose impact would be evident in the years ahead.
Otuaro said the beneficiaries were carefully selected and enrolled in industry-tailored programmes to ensure maximum impact on their return. He added that outstanding MSc scholars who qualify for PhD programmes would also receive further academic support.
Some beneficiaries, including Arafiena Shekinah Nkem (MSc Project Management, University of Liverpool) and Omokaro Rick Efosa (MSc Supply Chain and Logistics Management, Coventry University), expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the NSA and PAP leadership, pledging to study diligently and contribute to national development.
