Parallel APC LG excos emerge in Sokoto

A new set of executive committees for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the  23 local governments areas of Sokoto State have been inaugurated.

They were inaugurated by the Senator representing Sokoto East, Ibrahim Lamido, who explained that the national leadership of the party has approved the emergence of local government executives either through consensus or delegate elections. He said the excos came about through consensus..

Daily Trust however  gathered that structure of the party aligned with the Sokoto State Government also conducted a separate congress with another set of local government executives emerging.

Chairman of the APC in Sokoto State, Isah Sadiq Achida when contacted, dismissed claims that a parallel congress was conducted in the state describing the claim  as baseless and lacking credibility.

“When, where did the thing happen and who conducted it? And in whose presence did it take place?” the chairman asked.

Achida stated that under party laws and guidelines, any congress whether conducted through voting or by consensus must be held openly and transparently, with the presence of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.

“You cannot perform an election in secret place and later claim it represents the party,” he said.

The chairman also questioned how someone not known to be a registered member of the party could claim to have organized a parallel congress. “We concluded our membership registration exercise just two weeks ago. We did not see or hear this person’s name as a registered member of the APC. So how can a non-member come out to say he conducted a parallel election?” he asked.

He explained that Sokoto State Governor is serving as the leader of the party in the state, and that party affairs are conducted under his guidance.

Addressing the officials, Senator Lamido used the opportunity to congratulate them, urging them to work hard toward strengthening the party and ensuring its success at both the state and national levels.

He also acknowledged Hon. Kabiru Sarkin Fulani as the incoming state chairman of the party and expressed appreciation to party leaders and secretaries at the local government level for their continued support.

The senator also assured the party members of his total commitment to honesty and accountability.
