The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has lauded the recent passage by the Senate the bill for the enactment of an act to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps.

National President of NANS comrade Aruna Kadiri gave this commendation at a press briefing, Saturday, in Abuja.

He said the bill passage is a right step in the right direction as it will help create jobs for the unemployed youths and by extension reduce social vices amongst youths in the country.

He said, “Some of the visions and missions of Nigerian Peace Corps is to train and equip the youth with knowledge for peace education, conflict mediation, intervention, reconciliation and confident building. Furthermore, members of Nigerian Peace Corps will be deployed to all tertiary institutions, secondary schools and primary schools, to maintain law and order, curb cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.’’

Comrade Kadiri therefore called on President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly assent to the bill and give it all institutional supports.

He commended  the National Commandant of PCN, Dickson Akoh, for nurturing the idea of the Peace Corps  in the past 18 years which has placed Nigeria as the second nation after the United States that passed similar bill to law on the 22nd September, 1961.
