Passenger arraigned for assaulting tricycle rider

A 22-year old passenger, Kabiru Sanusi has been arraigned before a Senior Magistrate Court no 7 of Gyadi-Gyadi quarters, Kano state for allegedly assaulting and removing five teeth of a tricycle rider, Umar Yahaya.

The Police Prosecution Officer, ASP Muntari Muhammad told the court that Yahaya reported the matter to the police at Farm Center Police Station, Tarauni local government area, Kano state.

He added that the victim, alleged that Sanusi conspired with unknown persons now at large and beat him up and as a result he lost five teeth.

The prosecutor informed the court that the accused stopped the complainant at Bello Maitama Junction in Tarauni quarters and asked him to take him to Goron-Dutse at the cost of N150, but after they reached Sokoto road the accused asked the complainant to stop.

“And before he stopped the tricycle, the accused jumped off from the tricycle and started shouting and calling him a thief and blood soaker. He also alleged that the rider has soaked his blood.

“On hearing that, some passersby, who are now at large, together with the accused and beat up the complainant, as a result, he sustained serious injuries and also lost five teeth,” he said.

When the charge sheet was read to the accused person, he pleaded not guilty to three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, assault and causing hurt which contradicted Sections 97, 265 and 246 of Penal Code Law.

The presiding Judge, Senior Magistrate Fatuhu Yassar ordered that the accused to be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to 20th February, 2018.
