Passengers commend NRC for maintaining stable fares

Nigeria Railway Corporation

Passengers who travelled on the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) services during the recent festive period have expressed appreciation to the Corporation for maintaining its standard fare structure despite prevailing economic pressures.

Many commuters noted that, unlike road transport operators who significantly increased fares due to the rising cost of petroleum products, NRC remained consistent with its pricing, thereby providing much-needed relief to passengers.

Some travellers described the gesture as timely and considerate, especially at a period when many Nigerians were already grappling with increased cost of living.

According to them, the decision by NRC to sustain its normal rates enabled families, workers, and holiday travellers to move conveniently without being subjected to the usual festive fare hikes associated with road transport.

A cross-section of passengers interviewed at various stations observed that while road transport fares surged across the country, making travel difficult for many, NRC stood out by prioritising affordability and accessibility.

They commended the management for its commitment to public service and for cushioning the impact of economic challenges on ordinary Nigerians.

The passengers further noted that beyond affordability, the train service also offered comfort, safety, and reliability, making it a preferred choice during the busy travel season.

They urged the Corporation to sustain the initiative, describing it as a clear demonstration of people-oriented service delivery in line with national economic realities.
