The former heads of civil service who have served the nation in different capacities made this call in a recent documentary on the official commissioning of housing estates funded by FGSHLB.
In the documentary, a former Head of Civil  Service, Mr Stephen Oronsaye pointed out the relevance of the board, saying it has played a major role, despite the paucity of funds which has plagued the institution over the years.
He said, “They’re still providing loan facility to civil servants to own their houses.
“The board has done very well, in the sense that, if you go back to history, they have maintained appropriate records on those who have benefited and how these people have been paying.
“For the board to function properly, the Head of Service will have to make a case to higher authorities for better funding and re-channel housing contributions of public servants to the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board instead of National Housing Funds by amending the current laws.”
He commended the present administration for its intervention with N10 billion five years ago which was used to carry the backlog of applications for housing loans.
