Pastor bags life sentence for rape

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced Pastor Enoch Ebinyiam of the Winners’ Chapel, Omuo-Ekiti, to life in prison for raping a minor.

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Julius Ajibade, who prosecuted the case for the Ekiti State Government, called four witnesses and tendered two exhibits.

He told the court that the minor was one of the pastor’s church members and that he raped her on one of her visits to help his wife at the vicarage.

He said the pastor gave the girl Fanta laced with drugs which made her to sleep before he raped her which led her to bleed from her private part contrary to Section 2 of the Gender-Based Violence (Prohibition) Law, 2019.

The defendant spoke through his counsel, Adeyinka Opaleke, who called one witness.

Justice O. I. O. Ogunyemi held that the prosecution proved the offence of rape against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt, convicted and sentenced him to life in prison.
