Pastor launches campaign for Christians’ participation in politics

Emmanuel made the disclosure while addressing journalists at a press conference in Lagos.
According to the clergy who is also the Executive Director, Christian Citizenship Network International, it has become imperative for Christians across denominational platforms to actively engage in socio-political activities as well as governance. He noted that it is erroneous for anyone to discourage Christians to stay away from politics when indeed they are being guided by divine direction.
“In our society today, many Christians are ignorant of their duty to apply Biblical worldview directly to our culture and society, while many more Christians are ill equipped on how to apply Christian-worldview to society. The result is that most of us have failed in this area.
“Christianity and spirituality are displaced and shut out to an insignificant. And isolated part of life. This thinking, perception and position misplaced and ignored other essential facet of reality, including politics and government,” Rev. Emmanuel said.
The clergy who quoted many aspect of the bible to buttress his position added that the implication of Christians apathy to politics can be very grievous as they would be denying themselves the opportunity to evangelise which could be legislated away “through the mechanism of politics”.
Rev. Emmanuel further added that Christians must also avoid engaging in the sales of their voters cards because it remains the only instrument of registering their convictions on the state of affairs at local, state and national affairs.
“We call on all Christians to arise and vote for men and women of unimpeachable character and moral integrity into our system. This we must do, because a leader’s moral strength has a direct bearing on his character, integrity, efficiency, effectiveness, capacity and competence; and may most times serve as a gauge or parameter by which the people’s conduct and morale could be evaluated,” Emmanuel said.
