Pate, who is also Honorary Adviser to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Primary HealthCare, will be presented with the award on Tuesday in Geneva Switzerland alongside other recipient of the global award.
Dr. Cristian Baeza, Head of Health Systems Practice in Emerging Markets, McKinsey and Company, in a letter dated 13 April, 2014, conveying the selection of Dr Pate as recipient said the nomination and subsequent selection of Dr Pate was done by an independent jury chaired by Professor Dr. Julio Frenk, Dean of the faculty at Harvard School of Public Health.
According to Dr Baeza, “This year the jury was chaired by Professor  Dr. Julio Frenk, Dean of the Faculty at Harvard School of Public Health, Professor Dr. Christopher Murray, Director of the IHME, Mrs. Ann Starrs, President of Family Care International, Dr Tore Godal, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Norway,  and Mr. Martin Sabignoso, Coordinator at  the Ministry of Health Argentina.  Dr. Cristian Baeza (Head of the McKinsey Health Practice in Emerging Markets) also participates as observer. Award winners in the in the past have included Dr. Tore Godal (Norway), Professor Jane Halton (Australia), The Ministry of Health of Ethiopia, and Professor Dr. Recep Akdag (Turkey).  
“It is an honor, a privilege and a great pleasure to inform you that the jury has awarded you the  Geneva Forum for Health Award in honor of your leadership role in the implementation the polio eradication program as well as the restructuring and strengthening of the primary health care system of Nigeria,” the letter read in part.
Pate, who is also Adjunct Professor, at Duke Global Health Institute, Durham, North Carolina, United States, dedicated the award to the President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, for finding him worthy to chair the Presidential Task Force on Polio Eradication, the entire Presidential TaskForce team, and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, for the hard work and resilient to eradicate polio in the country.
