Treatment of malnourished children in 109 centers of Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) across Katsina state is facing some difficulties due to non-release of funds by participating local government councils, Kano Chronicle, gathered.

The 15 participating local government areas are Zango, Daura, Kaita, Dutse, Jibia, Danmusa, Batsari and Ingawa. Others include Sandamu, Baure, Mashi, Mani, Bakori, Mai’adua and Bindawa.

Kano Chronicle learnt that each local government is expected to make a monthly financial contribution of N250, 000 for transportation of Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) from the state capital to the local councils for onward delivery to various centers.

Area operation manager of Save the Children International, Alhaji Nura Mohammed said most of the 109 centers were not operating because of lack of funds.

“Release of funds has been irregular. The last time these centers got funds was in June 2016. Lack of fund is making it difficult for the centers to operate,” he said.

According to him, the weekly clinic provided at the CMAM centres is taking care of  over one million children with severe acute malnutrition.
