The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) has solicited the support of Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust and other titles towardssensitizing Nigerians on quality and safe drugs, and its regulatory activities.
Speaking when he led a delegation from the organization on a visit to the Media Trust headquarters yesterday in Abuja , Registrar of PCN, N.A.E Mohammed said fake and substandard medicine have posed major challenge to the healthcare system in  Nigeria for some years now, adding that the manufacture and distribution of such medicines have led to treatment failures and avoidable deaths.
He said the presence of unregistered premises across the country has contributed in no small ways to the circulation of substandard medicines.
The PCN boss said inadequate awareness by the Nigerian public on the need to access their medicine needs from registered premises, is one of the challenges facing the council in eradicating the activities of illegal premises.
Asked how the council is bringing stakeholders together in the drug distribution network, Mohammed  said the council has reached out to licensed patent medicine vendours, Association of Community Pharmacists, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Bill Gate Foundation, religious or community leaders and others so that they  can reach the people.
The Deputy Editor Mamoud Jega in his reaction assured the delegation of the commitment of Media Trust towards partnering with the organization.
