The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has seized drugs from hawkers in Obalende, Lagos State.
The move was to eradicate all forms of drug peddling on the streets of Lagos state.
In an interview with Daily Trust, the Deputy Director, Enforcement, Pharm. Stephen Esumobi, said such drugs were dangerous to health when taken due to the exposure of such drugs by the hawkers.
He said the council would track down all drug hawkers in the state in order to safeguard the lives of Lagosians. He also revealed plans to stop drug sellers in all public buses in Lagos soon.
In a related development, 259 pharmacies and medicine stores in various parts of Lagos State were sealed by the enforcement team for various offences.
The team visited 117 pharmacies and 265 patent medicine stores within one week in 24 parts of Lagos including Yaba, Ikorodu, Oshodi, Victoria Island, among others.
Esumobi further stated that 46 pharmacies and 213 patent medicine stores were sealed up for offences which included operating without registration with PCN, failure to renew premises licence, dispensing ethical products without the supervision of a pharmacist, amongst others.
In addition, 28 premises were issued directives for offences such as poor sanitary conditions, poor documentation and failure to display licenses.
He urged all pharmacists throughout the country to ensure they obtained a license, a location approval, have a pharmacist in all medicinal stores, and the required storage for the shelf life of every medicine in order to avoid being sealed up.
