The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustee (BOT) Secretary, Senator Walid Jibrin, and President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign coordinator in Nasarawa state, Senator Abubakar Sodangi have both lost their polling units, and their respective wards and local government area to the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, with wide margins.

The two former federal lawmakers and leading PDP figures hail from Nasarawa local government area, in the Western senatorial zone of the state.

Voters in Senator Jibrin’s Marama polling unit rejected his candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, who polled 218 as against Buhari, who polled 252, just as his Laminga Ward gave Jonathan only 1,534 votes against Buhari’s 2,419.

At the Angwan Dalatu polling unit where Senator Sodangi who is the state deputy coordinator of Jonathan, voted alongside the state House of Assembly speaker, Musa Ahmed Mohammed, who is a House of Representatives candidate of the PDP in the area, Jonathan lost to Buhari with 51 to 556 votes.

The two top PDP leaders also lost their Nasarawa-Central Ward to the APC presidential candidate, by 159 to 2,937.

Senator Walid Jibrin blamed the loss to what he called “politics of religion,” alleging that Buhari campaigned on the platform of religion, swaying the less informed people of his area.

But the state deputy governor, Dameshi Barau Luka, who is the main coordinator of Jonathan in the state, delivered both his Ningo Primary School unit, and his Ningo Bohar Ward. Jonathan won the unit with 589, defeating Buhari, who polled 32, while result for the ward showed the PDP candidate won with 1,928, beating Buhari, who polled 102.
