Attahiru Bafarawa

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who aligned themselves with former Governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa have vowed to resist any attempt to impose leaders of the party in the forthcoming state and local government congresses in Sokoto State.

Addressing newsmen at the Sokoto’s residence of the former governor on Saturday, the group insisted on allowing members of the party to choose their leaders.

“We, as the concerned members of PDP in Sokoto State, are democrats; in other words, we want democracy to thrive in the party.

“We will not accept appointments or is it the crowning of party leaders to satisfy primordial and selfish interests,” he said.

They also chided the state’s chairman of the party over his recent comments.

The chairman, Bello Goronyo had during their recent stakeholders’ meeting alleged that some members were contracted to destroy the party in the state.

Responding to the allegation, the leader of the group, Professor Hamza Maishanu said they were disturbed by the statement.
