The Court of Appeal in Abuja has adjourned indefinitely for judgement in the appeals over the stopping of the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The three-member panel of justices on Thursday reserved the nine appeals after the adoption of all written processes filed in the matter, maintaining that a new date would be communicated to the parties.
The Tanimu Turaki-led executive had filed the appeals challenging the earlier orders of a Fededal High Court in Abuja stopping the November 15 and 16 national convention of the party in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a suit by aggrieved members of the party.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State sat in the court for hours over the legal battle for the soul of the PDP alongside the National Chairman, Turaki, before leaving around 1 pm.
The members, believed to be loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had contended that the party failed to issue notices to state officials within 21 days before the convention, thus were not in compliance with Section 223(1)(a), 228(a) of the Constitution of Nigeria, Section 82(1)(2)(3) of the Electoral Act, 2022, and paragraphs 12, 13, 14 and 16 of Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022 of the PDP.
The appeal marked, CA/ABJ/CV/1613/2025 has the PDP, its National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC) as appellants while INEC, Austin Nwachukwu, Amah Abraham Nnanna, Turnah George, Samuel Anyanwu, Umar Damagun, Ali Odefa and Emmanuel Ogidi are listed as respondents.
While adopting the appellants’ brief of arguments filed on November 20, 2025, along with other processes filed on their behalf, Chris Uche (SAN) told the court that the appeal is against the October 31, 2025 judgement, which was done without jurisdiction in Abuja. A counsel in the Wike camp, Joseph Daudu (SAN) asked the appellate court to grant the preliminary objections and dismiss the appeal.
