The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Plateau State chapter has suspended its Southern Zone Vice Chairman, Mankup Peter Tongshep.

He was returned as the State Chairman of the faction backed by the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, minister, Nyesom Wike.

The event which took place last week under tight security, was supervised by a seven-member delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The congress attracted prominent figures from the Wike-backed faction, including former Sports Ministers Damishi Sango and Musa I. Azi, Sarpiya Danyaro, Aminu Zang, Timothy Golu and Rt. Hon. Johnbul Shekarau, among other party chieftains.

Meanwhile, the PDP loyal to the Governors and the  Dr Tanimu  Turaki  faction said the suspension is with immediate effect.

The suspension was announced by the State Working Committee in a statement issued on Thursday and made available to journalists in Jos. 

The statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Choji Felix Dalyop, said the party relied on its powers under Section 57(1) of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended), citing Tongshep’s conduct and actions as falling under Sections 58(1)(i) and (j) following a preliminary hearing.

He said during the suspension period, Tongshep is barred from functioning in his role as Southern Zone Vice Chairman of the PDP.
