The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has declared that the party is fully prepared, qualified, and determined to contest the February 21, 2026, chairmanship elections across the territory’s six area councils.

The FCT PDP Chairman, Alhaji Ismaila Mohammed Yenche, stated this during a press briefing at the party’s secretariat in Abuja on Friday. His statement was in reaction to reports claiming that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had disqualified the party from the forthcoming elections.

Yenche dismissed the reports circulating in newspapers and online media as false, urging the public to disregard them.

He clarified that all nomination forms for PDP chairmanship and councillorship candidates across the 62 political wards have been duly approved and signed by the Ambassador Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. According to him, the legitimacy of these candidates has been sealed with the official stamp of INEC.

The chairman expressed surprise that opponents appeared “rattled” by the strength of the PDP’s candidates and their potential to sweep the polls in all six area councils.

“It is obvious that our party’s opponents have resorted to their tired tactics of misinformation,” Yenche said. “In their desperation, they peddle fake reports and malicious propaganda, seeking to cast doubt on the eligibility of our candidates.”

He added, “FCT PDP is not merely participating in the forthcoming area council elections; the party is marching forward with the clear intention to win, and to win handsomely.”

Yenche called on party members, supporters, and stakeholders across the FCT to ignore the rumors of disqualification.

He urged chairmanship and councillorship candidates not to be distracted and to continue their campaigns ahead of the February 2026 polls, expressing confidence that the PDP will emerge victorious.
