The opposition coalition has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), did not conducted any congress in Rivers State, contrary to reports of the charade orchestrated by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The coalition in a statement issued in Abuja said if anything of a sort actually happened at the whims and caprices of the former Governor Wike’s faction of the PDP in Rivers State, it remained an invalid exercise which could not stand but fall like a pack of cards.

According to the opposition group, the FCT Minister who claimed to be a lawyer would have known that his purported outing last weekend in Rivers amounted to contempt ex facie curiae and the judiciary must take action against the supposed apostle in the temple of justice.

“We were astounded and astonished to have read in the pages Newspapers and watched on the screen of television stations that the embattled Minister of the FCT and a former governor of Rivers State led a faction loyal to him to hold congress of the PDP against subsisting court order.

“That so called congress, if at at all was held as reported is as invalid as it is null and void because their is a court order to that it effect and it will not stand but fall like a pack of cards to the chagrin of Wike who is so fissated about power in the state even when he had long moved and Governor Sim Fubara has taken charge.

“For the attention of Wike, already,
the PDP has announced that the recently concluded state congresses in 12 states, including Rivers, are under review.

“In Rivers, the congress was held despite an existing court order preventing the process which has led to a dispute between the National Working Committee (NWC) that authorised the congress and the PDP Governors Forum, which asserts that Governor Siminalayi Fubara should remain the party leader in the state.

“The National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba has since disclosed that ‘there are processes and procedures for establishing state chapters and other party organs. We acknowledge that there are conflicting orders, and as a party of the rule of law, we strive to comply with court orders to avoid anarchy.

“Ologunagba said when congresses are held, there are procedures, including the formation of an appeal panel to address any disputes. These issues are reviewed by the NWC, which will then make a decision. The process is not yet complete and will eventually be subject to ratification by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

“Ologunagba emphasised the need for caution in light of ongoing court cases, stating that ‘it is important for the PDP to be cautious and guided appropriately by the legal proceedings. These issues are being addressed as part of the ongoing process.”
