There is need to strengthen and balance the equation by evolving a political team in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which will give the needed political direction to achieving the President’s noble objective of transforming Nigeria. Therefore, the need for visionary, purposeful, credible and energetic leadership for the party must be seriously examined.

It is most disturbing the calibre of the seeming front contenders to this exalted office. It seems that not many of them really understand the daunting task of the chairman of the big party. Many are just too old! One wonders why some elder statesmen, who should at best serve as guardians of moral codes at their ages, are jostling for this hot seat? It is best if they go back to a peaceful retirement and where necessary support the party and government by wise counsel and motivation while Mr President should honour them with national awards. Some of the aspirants who fall within the working age have too many baggage of past misdeeds which will come back to haunt them while in office. Arch. Ibrahim Bunu is one of the contenders. Discussion with him reveals his belief that a qualified leader is the one that the followers believe in his ability to lead and unanimously invite to lead them rather than struggling and imposing himself on them. Bunu is not only credible, honest, disciplined and a detribalized Nigerian but one who has been a loyal, committed and good party man.

We want all Nigerians to visit the report of the Presidential Project Assessment Committee headed by Bunu, which got the positive attention of the Federal Executive Council which adopted the report sector by sector with the aim of using the recommendations therein for policy formulation of the Jonathan-led administration.

We therefore, on this note, establish that a man who led a team round the length and breadth of this country for this laudable mission could be said to be in the heart of the transformation of the Nigerian nation and should not be allowed to sit back without contributing to the implementation of the projects he started. We are of the belief that Bunu is in the best position to team up with Mr President at the political front, providing both professional and political support for driving home the transformation agenda.

He comes from the North-eastern geo-political zone to which the position is zoned. There is no gainsaying the fact that the PDP is in urgent need of reform and those who have the potential of making this possible deserve to be recommended for the job.
