The genesis of this imbroglio as all party members in the state are aware can be traced back to the state congress widely believed to have been held at the behest of the minister of state for finance Dr. Yerima Lawal Ngama that purportedly elected Alhaji Lawal Gana as the new state chairman of the party. This said congress was in direct contravention of the earlier resolution of the National Executive Council (NEC) postponing the Yobe State Congress due to the security challenges.
Therefore, Alhaji Abba Gana Tata, the then duly elected incumbent chairman and other well meaning party members, not surprisingly and rightly disregarded the said congress as an aberration. The state chairman declared that no official letter was received from party headquarters that any election was going to be held. But he was only to learn later that a congress was allegedly held at Gashua contrary to earlier agreement.
Consequently the party has now been split thereby making the execution of any coherent programme for the actualisation of the party’s leadership goals in Yobe State a near impossibility due to the unending leadership tussle. This sad situation may also not be unconnected to the departure of some well meaning and invaluable party members.
A house divided cannot stand! To turn around the fortunes of the PDP in Yobe State is a matter of great urgency. This current impasse needs to be resolved as soon as possible. The National body of the party must show firm resolve in this matter. As a first step, a return to the status quo ante is vital.
This means that it must reaffirm the leadership of Alhaji Abba Gana Tata who is the duly elected party leader of the state before the purported Gashua congress. This is necessary because there can be no progress if there is no respect for duly constituted authority or certain individuals are allowed to show disregard for due process with impunity. Reconciling all aggrieved party members and reunification of all factions for the good fortunes of the PDP in Yobe State can be undertaken and the party can turn its undivided attention to its ultimate goal in Yobe State.
