The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has hit back at the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying that the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, did not fight his former boss, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, while in office.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Delta State APC governorship campaign in Warri last Saturday, Tinubu said, “When Atiku was there, he was fighting his boss in public. They were telling us how they spent PTF money to buy cars for their girlfriends. Do they have shame? Will you vote for them again?”
But reacting to the comment yesterday the spokesperson of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Dino Melaye, said Atiku only defended the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and deepened democracy.
Melaye disclosed that Atiku has become a nightmare to the APC candidate that he no longer does without speaking about him, adding that, “As usual, Tinubu departed from issues and devoted his limited attention to Atiku Abubakar, who must be giving him nightmares on the 2023 presidential election.”

He said unlike Tinubu who cannot be trusted with power, the campaign “owes it a deep gratitude that Tinubu has recalled this fine attribute of Atiku Abubakar, who while he served as the vice president defended the constitution and deepened Nigeria’s democracy.”
The spokesperson said it is to Atiku’s credit that he stood firm in pursuit of his conviction that the loyalty of public officers is to the constitution and not to individuals, adding that this position will be at “variance with the disposition of a man of tyrannical antecedents like Tinubu, who in exhibition of undemocratic tendencies fought his female deputy governor, Mrs Kofo Akereke-Bucknor, until she was removed from office.
“The removal of Tinubu’s first deputy governor from office was a gross betrayal of Afenifere who had nominated the former deputy governor as part of the group’s understanding for supporting Tinubu’s election as governor of Lagos State. This conduct is proof that Tinubu cannot be trusted with power,” he said.
