Determined to forestall the possibility of another circle of crisis due to the seasonal migration of Fulani herders from the northern to the southern part of the country, the Southern Kaduna Joint Peace Committee (SKJPC), has sensitised traditional rulers of the area on the need to be proactive.

The co-chairmen of the committee, Dr Ahmad Yandeh and Dr Benjamin Gugon, said conflicts that might arise and lead to destruction of crops and animals from the seasonal movement should be carefully handled so they do not escalate.

They observed that all the chiefdoms and emirates visited have livestock routes passing through them hence the need to exercise caution.

The statement appreciated the support and encouragement by the traditional rulers visited while the traditional leaders assured the committee of their commitment to peace and agreed that the conflicts between herders and farmers are avoidable

While attributing most of the conflicts to the use of minors for cattle rearing, the co-chairmen said  traditional rulers have reiterated their readiness to support the committee and the Kaduna State government to ensure that peace is maintained at all times.
